Are you ready for the responsibility?

Now I understand that by the time you are in high school, less and less of your friends are no longer virgins. Now I get it, you find someone that is very attractive and well, you know the rest. Now I'm not knocking teenagers having sex, I just want to say if your going to do it, protect yourself.
Everyone knows that teenage pregnacy is nothing new to the North America. With shows like 16 and pregnant and movies like The pregnacy Pact.
But I want to voice some of my opinions on this topic.
  1. If you are sexually active it would be best to protect your self from STDs and getting pregnant. (As in have a contraceptive to block the possible chance of both.)
  2. Don't get pregnant on purpose in hopes that your man will stay with you. Trying to trap your dude by getting pregnant is f**cked up. He has future plans, and it doesn't include being a "baby daddy".
  3. Getting yourself checked is a must. Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have become sexually active it would be a smart idea to get yourself checked by a doctor. Preferrable every six-months. Just in case you catch something, you will probably be able to stop it before it is too late. And lastly,
  4. Try to stay abstinent. Condoms only have a 97% effective in prevention of pregnancies and STDs, but abstinence is 100% effective.

Getting pregnant at such a young age increases the chance of being a single parent. And raising a child on your own can be very difficult. Teen pregnancies carry extra health risks to the mother and the baby. Often, teenagers don't receive timely prenatal care, and they have a higher risk for pregnancy-related high blood pressure and its complications. Risks for the baby include premature birth and a low birthweight.

If you are a teenager who is having sex, remember to protect yourself, and possible your future.

Well thats all for today.

After High School

It is getting closer and closer to that time. And high school students have to know what they want to do after high school. Now is the time you start getting e-mails and letters from many colleges. But how do you know what college is best for you? All of them is saying they are the "right" college; I mean it's there job too. Besides the normal day-to-day stress, the end of junior year is when it all goes down for juniors. When you need to study and practice for the SAT or ACT) and to really have an idea of what college or where you want to go.
For many students, it is the first generation in their family to go to college. And the parents are really putting the pressure on.
When I think about college, I actually start to get nervous and get a little scared of even the thought! I really don't want to go to college in New York, but it seems as though that is the only state (besides Philly) that are getting in contact with me.
I try to go college searching, but I honestly don't know where to start! smh...
A few days ago I got a magazine in the mail about different colleges that have great Medical Programs (I want to be a doctor) and it helped. I hope more helpful information comes my way. AND SOON! Because I need to get my life together before it is too late.
Well that's all for today.

Schools Spying on Students; WHAT? (#22)

Harriton High School in Philadelphia has been "spying" on students via webcam with out the students knowing.
"Families later learned of the alleged webcam spying when an assistant principal spoke to a student about inappropriate behavior at home."
As a student who does have a webcam hooked up I find this very disturbing. I don't see why the school feels that what is going on in the privacy of the students homes is any of their concern. And even if the student is doing what the say is "inappropriate behavior" to what standards is it at? For example, just because a student is not allowed to do certain things at school doesn't mean that their parents don't allow it in their homes.
I feel that the school spying on students at home IS the inappropriate behavior. And the school should not be spying on 16 yr olds as they undress. Which leads me to a second very inappropiate behavior that a staff member would actually SIT THERE and watch these kids. I find it HIGHLY inappropriate.
Ugh, perverts.
Any way, thats all for now. More later on.

2010 Winter Olympics

CONGRATULATION USA!
By far the most entertaining events for me has been the Snowboarding Half-Pipe and the Figure Skating.
USA has the most gold medals in the Winter Sports this year. YAY!
Watching Shaun White snowboard was real cool, he had new tricks that no one has seen before. Another sport I've been watching is the Women's Ski. I don't remember the girl who won gold, but you already know she was from USA. It was also very inspiring for her because she had an injured shin. When they did the slow-motion of her skiing you could tell she wasn't putting pressure on her right leg (which was injured) So basically she skied on ONE LEG!!
Then the speed skating hottie Shani Davis won gold and was the first Black Athlete to win a gold in the winter olympics. GO SHANI GO!! Coming from the Chi-Town and representin'. :D
I was very proud of USA, and I am defiantly keeping up with the Winter Olympics, and I hope other people are too.

OH YEAH!! HOW COULD I FORGET!! Jamaica has a Cross-Country skier, so I'm rooting for my country also. :D

Toyota Recalls the Prius Hybrid

Lately the car company "Toyota" has been recalling a lot of cars. The Toyota Priuses has been recalled on 437,000 cars. The problem seems to be envolving the brakes. Associated Press even calls it "the latest embarrasing safety lapse at the world's largest automaker"
After a while they realize that they are going to have to recall 8.5 million because of the faulty floor mats (which can trap the gas pedals) and faulty gas pedals that are slow to return to the idle position.
Although there has been so many problems with previous Priuses the 2010 model has not been recalled.
There has been 200 complaints in Japan and the U.S. about delay when the brakes in the Prius were passed in cold conditions and on bumpy roads.
I'm not upset with the recall because I find it very responsible for Akio Toyoda (CEO of Toyota) to see that he has made a mistake and is going to fix it. There are a lot of people who aren't even going to drive their Priuses any more (which I find ridiculous). If it is a fixable problem (which it is) just go get it fixed. All you have to do is go to your dealership and get the brake pedal fix. While they take 30 minutes to fix it, you can go out and buy some new floor mats. I mean I'm not tryning to say this isn't serious, it is. But people are really going crazy and like hate Mr. Toyoda for it.
All I'm saying is mistakes happen. Mr. Toyoda was probably focusing so much on how to make it gas efficient that 2 things went wrong, 2 FIXABLE things. America and Japan needs to CALM DOWN. He is only human, it happens. And it could of been a lot worse. People who own Priuses should be happy they only need to pay about $42 for a full tank of gas and the tank holds 11.9 gallons and with about 50 MPG. SHIIIIIT, thats about 595 miles a tank . . . Don't F**ckin' Complain.
Thats all for today.. more tomorrow.

Will & Jada Smith [02/08/09]

I want to start my blog off first saying GO SAINTS!! Who won the Superbowl 44 last night. They started off kinda' rough, but ended very strong. With 31 to 17 so GO SAINTS!!

Today is my 1yr anniversary with my boyfriend so I want to do another blog on relationships. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith is one of my favorite celebrity couple. They have been married since December 31, 1997 and now have 3 children, Jayden, Will Jr., and Willow. (Not in order)

One reason why love this celebrity couple is because they keep they S**t together. You don't see Will out f**king around and you don't see Jada doing that either. Although they have children they are still out doing what they do. Will Smith is doing his movie thing and Jada is out with her band making money the way she does.

Jada Pinkett Smith is really holding it down for the women out there. She is a real role model for all the females out there. Their relation ship is strong and has lasted for a long time (especially in Hollywood)

I love their relationship, and I wish them the best of luck!:)

Thats all for today, more tomorrow.

On My Mind...

Africa, the Mother Land of the World. Where life started. I really don't understand why Africa is so curupt. I don't think Africa, out of all countries should be in such devastatoin. Africa is known to the world as the biggest resources with diamonds, gold, copper, cobalt and zinc. Why are they going through this? Today, I got more information about the situation dealing with the Tutsi and Hutu. As you may or may not know, the Hutu's are the ones who are associated with the famous yet sad genocide. Democrate Republic Congo (as you may or may not know) has about 2 million Hutu who fled from Rwanda to the DR Congo. Joseph Mobutu was the first ruler after the Belgians were forced out. And like many people with too much power, Mobutu became corrupt with power (go figure). After the Hutus fled, they allied themselves with Mobutu's goverment. Things start to become about money, and the government's soilders switch over, helping the Hutus. The Tutsi militias, allied to other local groups backed by Uganda, eventually marched on Kinshasa and overthrew Mobutu's government. They installed Laurent Kabila as president and he renamed the country - from Zaire to DR Congo. (what we know now) But Kabila failed to expel the Hutu militia and tinu Rwanda, (you can see the problem here) which had put him in power, soon sent a new force to oust him.
Knowing about this and knowing there isn't much I could do really sickens me.
Thats all for today..

Kalehe, Congo

I just read a very devestating article about Kalehe, Congo. Hutu militia (same from the Rwandan genecide) has been doing some very disturbing things. Reports say that they have killed at LEAST 5.4 million people in Congo since 2007. And not only killing, they have been said to break in, kill and rape many women and girls. This is very sad because why are we not paying any attention to this? I understand that Haiti is in need but, so are other people. I didn't think this was still happening in this day and age. These little girls are being raped and having their loved ones being tortured and taken away from them. Not only are these little 6yr old girls and 12yr old girls being raped but, they are catching all sorts of sexual transmitted diseases. Something that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. In a article I read, a 9yr old girl named Chance Tombola was raped along side her Aunt. After catching a sexual transmitted disease and not being able to urinate properly, she will also have little to none chance of getting a husband that will marry her after knowing she was raped. A girl in Congo is worth 20 goats, but one that has been raped is worth 2 goats (the most). I want to really understand why this is happening but, it is so sad to read about or to watch. No one should be treated like this. And we really need to do something about these mililta people doing so much damage under our nose. We know whats happening, so should take matters into our own hands. (well thats what I think at least)
This is the link to the article that I just finished reading:
I'm going to do more reasearch into this, because I just don't understand why we can't stop this.
But, thats all for today; so...

Something is in the air:)

Love is in the air at schools, work, and regular social life. Feburary is here and isn't going to stay for long. But, before we get to caught up in the Valentines Day fever, we need to remember that it is also Black History Month. This is the time for the Afro-Americans to honor their roots that go back all the way to the 1800s. My ancestors are from Jamaica, but we (Black Americans) are all one. It is good to know what they had to go through for us to be living comfortable (well, somewhat comfortable). So take the time out and do something to acknowledge the pass by doing something helpful and positive for the future.
ANYWAY!! I got my report card today:) I am very happy with what I got! So happy that I am going to blog about it:D
Business Class: 91%
English: 91%
Journalism: 99%
Algebra 2/ Trig: 65%
Team Sports: 97%
Biology: 93%
and a average of 89%
I am very proud of myself, I worked hard and it actually showed:) YAAAAY!!
Mama's gonna' be proud:')
WELP! thats all for today.
